I had my house exterminated by a reputable company named Bayshore Exterminators. Before I gave a deposit, I completed all the necessary research to ensure I was dealing with a company licensed to deal with structural pests. When they first came out to my house, they determined that there was a lot of damaged wood and sent out their wood repair guy, Obed Porras Jr, to look at what repairs were needed. Once everything was inspected, they put together an estimate that included all of the work. When Obed Porras Jr was working at my house, he noticed that a few of my outlets weren't working and suggested that I hire an electrician. I told him that I had been looking for one and he told me that he knows a guy that's licensed. He said that he would have this guy come out to my house the following day and I said okay.
The guy pretending to be a Certified Licensed Electrician came to my house, inspected it, and wrote up a proposal. His name is Ignacio Ortiz Jr aka Nacho. I told him that I would discuss it with my husband and he said okay. Nacho called me a week later and said that if we wanted to lock in the price, we would have to sign a contract so I invited him back over when my husband was there. Nacho went over everything again, wrote up a contract, and asked for $2300 (50% Deposit) to get started. Since he came as a referral, we didn't bother to ask any questions and gave him the check. He was supposed to start on Monday 4/27/09 and never showed-up. We tried several attempts to call him and he did not answer nor return any of our calls. I asked Obed Porras Jr to help me get in contact with Nacho and he could not reach him either. Until this day, I have not heard from him.
Unfortunately, I could not file a police report because apparently, since we signed a contract, this becomes a civil matter. This guy must have known that because after looking at everything, we realized that we didn't get much info about him at all. Luckily, I was able to get a copy of the paid check I wrote him that has CA Driver's License number on it. I have no choice but to hire a Private Investigator to obtain his home address so that I can file a Small Claim.
There are not many resourses out there that can help a consumer if they ripped off like I did. I'm hoping that by submitting this report, it will assist others with similar situations. Let this be a lesson, research everything and everyone even if they come highly recommended. Who knows who is in on things these days. We feel like we have been taken advantage of.
