Dear Attorney Generals Office, Washington State,
My wife and I met with Cindy Gilmore after receiving her phone call soliciting me to join Haldane. Ms. Gilmore stated that Haldane had contacts in the Hidden Job Market and Haldane would put me in front of the Decision Makers who are hiring and arrange those interviews. My wife and I stated that I had a Degree and management experience and I was in a career transition.
I needed a steady job, not in sales, nor on a commission basis, but a stable salary job to support my wife and daughter. I stated that the jobs listed on the internet were not appealing and were mostly sales, something I was not interested in. She emphasized the 91% return of fee rate by employers hiring through Haldane and reassured us that the $4,500 fee would not be a concern since it would be coming back to us.
Cindy Gilmore assured both of us that I would be put in front of the Decision Makers and could expect a $40,000 to $50,000 career, instead of a job. Ms. Gilmore insisted that newspapers and the internet were a waste of time and that Haldane has contacts that do the hiring. We can put you in front of these people and get a lifelong career for you.
That way you won't be looking for another job in 5 years. Ms. Gilmore then stated that she would meet with Karl Hamilton and others in the Belleview office, review my case and hiring potential, and let me know if they would accept me into their program. She called me at home to let me know that she needed my credit card for payment. I asked if I could make payments with this was a large amount of money.
I stated that my wife and I would have to borrow from our parents to pay off the credit card. She stated that the fee is paid back by employers and is tax deductible. She took the credit card off her desk and said that she needed to check for funds and make sure our credit limit would cover the $4,500. She returned saying that it worked fine, you just sign this and we will be scheduling you to see Karl.
I attended a few meetings with Karl Hamilton, which lasted from 20 to 45 minutes in which he gathered information, gave me several assignments in order to make a resume.in January my suspicions began to rise as my meetings with Karl Hamilton consisted of him directing me to the Haldane Web Site and instructing me to use it to search for jobs on hotjobs.com, monster.com, and other free websites. The same ones that were explained in the initial interview with Cindy Gilmore as ineffective.
I began complaining about no results and was given printouts of sales jobs from the internet by Karl Hamilton. This went on through February until I scheduled a meeting with Cindy Gilmore on February 28, requesting a refund. My wife came with me and we confronted Cindy Gilmore with the false statements made during her sales pitch. She blamed the lack of results and direction on Karl Hamilton.
She opened my file, turned it toward us, and stated that Karl Hamilton has not worked on networking your resume.
I asked her if she had talked about my career search with Karl Hamilton when I started. She said no. My wife stated to Cindy Gilmore How dare you deceive us like this. We borrowed that money and believed in you integrity in our time of crisis. You have harmed more people than just my husband and I. I asked her how she could state that Haldane would put me in front of hiring employers for a $4,500 price tag and arrange interviews for high paying jobs, take my money, and justify that amount after I had not received a single interview.
Cindy Gilmore continued to blame Karl Hamilton for Haldane's mistakes. We promptly asked for a refund due to the deceptive sales practices employed by Haldane and false guarantees by Cindy Gilmore. Ms. Gilmore said that she never heard of Haldane refunding money and stated that she did not have the authority to refund. I asked who does.
She gave us the information to call Doug Meeker at the Corporate office. I called him that day and he said that he would get right back to me after he spoke with Karl and Cindy. I called back and was given his voicemail, left a message to call me, and waited. No reply.
Called again - I was given his voicemail again, with no reply. I called again in the afternoon, was told he was busy, when I asked to speak with his supervisor and was hung up on by the receptionist. Four days later, he returned my call and stated that his supervisor, Mr. Lipesik, didn't want to talk with me. He stated that You signed an agreement and would never get a refund.
At Bernard Haldane, we never give refunds and haven't had any complaints until this one. I said that his statement was absurd, and said, If I went into a transmission shop, they took my money, didn't have the transmission for my car and didn't follow through with the service, I would have a legal right to get my money back, and I'm asking the same of you. It's what is called fair and honest business practice. Mr. Doug Meeker went on and on to say, We have promised you nothing and your request for a refund is unheard of, no one has done this before.
He then said he had to go. I have been the victim of deceptive business practices, severe misrepresentation of services, and have been lied to when I asked for a full refund. Attached are the complaints of others outlining the same treatment by Haldane, same wrongdoing by Haldane, and the claims won against Haldane and some of the Attorney Generals from states harmed by Haldane.
