We contacted several waterproofing companies to compare prices and descriptions of how each company would waterproof our basement. We decided to go with Insta-Dry based on the representative's guarantee that when the job is done there will only be a little dust, timeliness of the job and the price, in that order. During our consultation, the rep's only request was that we move the items located on the perimeter of the basement to the center and to move our buisness area away from the walls to make it easier for the crew to remove debris from the basement. He guaranteed there would only be a little bit of dust once the job was done. So the day came and the crew was 1.5 hours late; granted, the roads were not the best but they could have called to let us know. Once they arrived, the crew got down to business, chipping old tiles away and then cutting away the cement. Around noon they came up from the basement and exited the house through the side door, which leads out to the dog run; and then they returned via the same way. Soon after that my husband let our little pups outside to potty. He walked over to the kitchen and happened to notice that our little guys were running loose; the guys from Insta-Dry had left the dog run gate wide open. When my husband approached them about the open gate, their only response was, "we had to go to the back yard to check something out." No appologies but showed agitation at my husband. Shortly after that the crew took their hour lunch break and then promptly returned to work. My husband had to take off to run errands and told them he would return shortly. When he returned they were pulling out of the driveway. My husband immediately came in and checked out the basement; that is when he discovered the filth, in addition to my once clean laundry in baskets and freshly ironed clothes. Never once did they mention to my husband to remove or cover anything in the basement (they indicated they would drape the area of the job). My husband was here from the beginning until mid-afternoon, which would have given them and him plenty of time to remove these items. It has been one week since the job and my basement is still a mess and disgusting. Additionally, since all of the dust from the job is particles of concrete, when you dampen it with a mop or dust cloth, it turns to a paste. I've even tried to dust prior to adding any type of moisture and that doesn't help.
Now, each time I come down into the basement, I smell a musty odor and the dust is so heavy I can't stay down there long or I become nauseated. We've called Insta-Dry a number of times to find out why we were left with such a mess; we even spoke to our rep who told us this has never happened and that he would find out from the crew why the house was left like we described (we even offered for him to come by and view it for himself) and he said he would get back to us within 24 hours... We are still waiting and it has been 4 days. I would never recommend this company and I will do all that I can to warn people against hiring them, unless you have the opportunity to oversee the entire process.
