In the late 80's Huberto Maestas was commissioned by the Roman Catholic Church to create bronze statues for a project in San Luis, Colorado. The mecca known as the stations of the cross. Most visitors don't realize that he has yet to deliver the final station of the cross. Additional funds were given to Maestas to finish the project by the parish in San Luis in 2008. And with the absence of Father Pat Valdez, it's more than likely that this project will never be completed.
After some extensive research of my own, I have also discovered that this is by no means the first time Maestas has taken a large down/full payment for work and not delivered. The reason I have mentioned the stations of the cross and not the other churches I know have been taken advantage of, is because the stations of the cross has become such a well known tourist attraction, And anyone can see that there is obviously a missing statue.
I hope that all the people and churches that have been scammed by Maestas can one day, collectively sue this man and make him pay for this injustice. Otherwise I'm afraid that he will continue to take advantage of naive art collectors and innocent churches. You have been warned!
