Is changing your box sizes in order to charge customers more $. Under 1/2 inch rounds down Over 1/2 inch rounds up. UPS rounding all UP. Everyone check your box sizes

Hi all, this note is a bit long. But well worth it... I really have tried since April to get this problem with UPS corrected. Thye say they are working on it, but to this day have done nothing...

My wife owns a small business that ships out $600 on average per week with UPS. They continue to change our box sizes, they say its only our boxes. But I dont beleive it. Here is what everyone should watch for.

First off in the UPS 2008 manual your box is allowed by UPS'S guidelines to be considered at less then 0.49 inch the size rounds down. And if over 0.50 it rounds up. For example one of your box sides measures 12 and 1/4 inches it is considered to be 12 inches. If it is 12 and 5/8 inches it is considered 13 inches.

All boxes under 84 inches goes by actual weight. So under 84 inches we have no problems... Its at 84 and over. To figure your box size you add the long side once and the other two sides twice. Those 3 numbers equal the box size. So if you have a box 12 x 11 x 10 the box size is 54.

What they are doing is when the box size is over 84 inches or 3 cubic feet. They can then change to demensional weight.

So if you have a box say 20 x 16 x 16 the total is 84 and should be actual weight. But if they change one side to say 20 x 17 x 16 or 21 x 16 x 16. The size now become demensional weight. They then recalculate and the box that actually might have weighed 7 pounds now is considered to be a 28 lbs box and the price doubles. Dem. Weight is for example a box when you times the box size numbers 20x16x16=5120 then divide by 194 that eqauls 26.3 lbs. This what they then charge you, no matter what it weighs..

You then get this bill for much more then you expected, because they changed the box size when they should not have, as long as the sides was not over the 0.49 inch. UPS is adding an ich no matter what. WRONG even by UPS's 2008 manual.

They are doing the exact same thing to oversize 3 boxes. At 26x26x26 you are ok but change 1 number and the price will jump up by $50-$90 depending on the place is is being shipped to.

But if you have this done to you. You must call them and let them know. They will then refund your money. But only if you call and tell them... They otherwise will charge you extra you do not owe.

Everyone. Pay attention they are riping you off. Measure you boxes before they get shipped. Measure exactly. Then when you get the bill check it. Look for the billing area for.
Correction and adjustments...

For ups stop it now. Before we all move to another carrier.
Thank you
darrel
