(aka OrbitTelecom) Unauthorized Charges on Qwest Bill - Charges continue to come even after trying to cancel fraudulent service

I received a double whammy with my last Qwest bill. I was charged by Orbit Telecom and SB-Online for 'Enhanced Telecommunications Services". My husband nor I ever approved these charges.

I noticed my phone bill in March was 45 dollars more than normal. Apparently, I signed up for 'Orbit Telecom' over the internet with my 'yahoo' address. Yeah right!!! I had two charges, Orbit Telecom and SBO-Online.

I contacted Qwest and the lady stated, "yes this happens all the time. We will credit your account but you better call them directly or you will be charged every month." When I asked why Qwest let them bill me, she mentioned there was some legislation that allows companies to charge you via internet as long as you give the home number. Say what??? Anybody can look my number up in the phonebook. Apparently, this is what these companies do.

When I talked to 'Marvie' (aka Sameer Depvah in India), she stated that I had signed up and that she couldn't credit my account so I would need to pay for the previous month. Of course, I lost it complaining this was illegal and that I was going to contact the better business bureau. Well, she was well rehearsed and knew the legislation number to allow this to occur and went on to describe how I had to have registered myself. Eventually, I got her to credit my account. But what do you know... The charges showed up again... This is still ongoing! I can only imagine how long this will take to resolve.

Why isn't this illegal?

Here is a very unprofessional and useless response: This email is regarding your call to our Customer Service Department today.

The consumer specifically confirms that he or she is at least eighteen (18) years of age and that he or she is, or has authorization from, the telephone line subscriber to bill charges to the telephone number that they have provided. We also require the consumer to provide information including: date of birth, mother's maiden name, a valid email address (where an order confirmation is sent within 24 to 48 hours of sign-up), and we capture the Computer's IP address for security and verification purposes.

Sure! Can we say SCAM?
