CR Pets
A store of abuse not joy

April 22

To NBC 10 Investigators;

I am writing to you so that maybe you can help the horrible situation in a pet store here in Delaware. I just have to tell someone about the situation I encountered when I went to buy my wife a Yorkshire Terrier. I had been on the waiting list for approximately 6 months waiting for this type of dog to become available. When I got the phone call I was excited that I would finally be to purchase the type of dog my wife wants. She had this breed of dog for 16 years and then un-expectedly her "Tuffy" past away. This happen two years ago and I have been looking for a replacement since then. So when I found CR Pets in Camden, DE I thought my dreams had been answered,
boy was I wrong. It was more like a horrible nightmare with no escape.
Let me start you off with a list history of my dealings with this pet store. While discussing
this with my wife I remembered a pet store that I had gone into with a friend 2 years ago.
This pet store was CR Pets, I knew they got dogs on a regular basis. When I went in with my friend
2 years ago they offered us a plan. We were able to money down on the dog and come back the following Friday and bring in the remainder of the money and get the puppy. So I went in there 6 months ago and put my name down to be notified when thier next Yorkie came available. At the time I put my name down I spoke with a brunette woman and saw that they had 2 puppies in the store at that time. The puppies looked good, but I didn't ask to hold them or anything because I wasn't
interested in buying any of the breeds they had available at that time.
So now that you know a little about my past dealings with this CR Pets I will continue on to the
reason why I write you today. Like I stated above, I got the call that the Yorkie was there and that
it would cost me $850. So I made plans to go and see the dog with my wife the next day. When we w
walked in we asked to see the Yorkie and were immediately taken to the back of the store. There were
approximately 12 crates and about 7 puppies. The gentleman that helped us handed the puppy to my wife.
The look on her face was sadness and disgust. The gentleman walked away and my wife explained to
me how this little puppy was covered in his own feces. On closer inspection we noticed that the
crates were dirty, and so were the puppies in them. There was urine and feces in each cage. My wife
stated how she wanted to get this little yorkie out of this mess and wished she get the other out
as well. So I approaced the gentleman and asked about the deal I was offered two years ago. He
immediately got loud with me and stated they never offered that kind of deal in this store. He called
me a liar and then took the puppy from my wife. As I was walking up front he continued to be rude and arrogant by saying he wouldn't sell a puppy to me or my wife because I was getting upset and asking to talk to a supervisor.
When I reached the front desk the brunette (sameone that helped me 2 years ago) basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about and that I made the whole thing up. I asked about the owner and was told "Linda" wasn't there. I was then told that I was wrong and when I tried to explain what happened, and coined the phrase "the customer is always right", she stated "NOT IN THIS STORE".
By this time she was yelling and he was yelling in the back ground. He even went on to put words
in my wife's mouth, when she was just standing there. Finally she threaten to call the cops and
have me arrested. My wife finally got me out of the store, only to have them follow us out and try
to intiminate me.
Once I left we decided to call the SPCA and report the conditions we just saw. When we called
I was told that they have had at least 30 reports on this one store. But yet they do nothing.
The following day the gentleman who attempted to wait on us passed us in his truck. He gave us dirty looks and try to intimidate us once more. It was at this time I called the store and asked to speak to "Linda" (the supposed owner). When I called I was told there was no "Linda" that worked there. So I apoligize for the inconvience and hung up. I waited about 10 minutes and called back and asked to speak to the owner. A woman got on the phone and I explained the situation
that occured yesterday, which apparently fell on snobbish and arrogant ears. I was told
that nothing would happen to her employees and that I could call the cops if I wanted to. I then
asked her name and she stated "Linda". It was at that time I knew I was being taken for a fool.
I am hoping you can help me expose this supposed "Pet Store" more like "abuse camp for puppies".
Not only was I treated badly, but the animals are clearly neglected. You would expect that with
the economy the way it is and a $850 price tag that the animals, as well as, the customers would be
treated with respect and kindness, not intimidation and abuse. Please help me help those little puppies and save future dogs from this stores clear abuse and negelect. It is my wish that with your help I can show my wife that there are decent people out there who have the type of dog she wants and she can finally have another yorkie to remind her of her precious "Tuffy". Thank you for any and all attention you give the situation.
