Scare tactics used by Consolidated Readers DONT USE THEM! Ripoff

About 4 years ago I received a phone call from someone at Consolidated Readers to purchase magazines. I stupidly signed up for them. I did receive a few magazines at first but then they stopped coming. I did not pay and asked to cancel. I was told I signed a contract and could not cancel. I still did not pay and never did give them any credit card information at first.

Now this past week I received a call from someone named "Mark" from the "Attorney Clerk's" office. He said I was going to get a subpeona and needed to pay the $600 I owed the company plus their lawyer fee's of about $1200. I also would have to travel to another state to attend court. Another option was to pay $400 and have the case closed. Being the idiot I am I went ahead and said okay and gave my credit card number's for the money to be taken out next friday on my payday. I got scared which I think was what they were trying to do in the first place.

Now that I have thought about it and read other cases on this website I don't know what to do. I am afraid they will take more money from me. Honestly I never received $600 worth of magazines and I shouldn't have to pay. I guess the money is going to come out on my payday which is actually most of my paycheck. Please help. I don't know what to do and I am scared. I don't want to get in any legal trouble and I want them not to ever bother me again.
