I received a letter today indicating that i'd won $500,000 in a mega win international jackpot. The letter stated that my entry # is fn-714-jc531454 and my lucky numbers were 01-02-11-25-35-16.
I was immediately skeptical because the letter and the check (written for $4,478 for and fees i may encounter to claim my winnings) came in a plain envelope with no return address and had a canadian stamp/postmark, but a nevada address on the letterhead.
The check appears to be drawn from wachovia bank, so i called wachovia to verify the validity of the check, and, of course, they were unable to verify the account number.
The phone number on the check is supposedly to a fiduciary agent of the company named brian chid... 778-859-7395. The letter, however, was "signed" by amy bell, a supposed chief financial officer, but the remitter on the check is some lady named patricia hardy.
Lord knows that my 2 year old daughter and i (a 24 year old single mom) could really use such a blessing, but thanks to my skepticism and a little internet research, we didn't get into a worse financial pickle!!!
I am hoping that we can contact the canadian authorities and perhaps even get a class action lawsuit and get some of this money they were promising!!!
