My daughter was put out of the store by 2 big security guards because the store owner (so they said) stated she wanted my daughter out because she was on the cell phone. The security guards stated to Zekia if she goes into another store in the retail area they would call the police to arrest her. Zekia was on the cell phone talking to me about some earrings in the store. It was Zekia's birthday. I (Sheri) went to the store myself about 30 min. Later.
I have already asked the police officer what should I do. I was told to be extremely nice and write down everything. Well I did, the woman that claims she is the owner was very nice in the beginning until I mentioned purchasing some earrings. With hate she remembered Zekia. I asked this woman as a concerned parent, Did Zekia steal, she said no, I ask did she fight or disrupt, the woman said no and stated to tell the truth she was quite pleasant but I CAN NOT COMPETE WITH A CELL PHONE.
I stated I was the lady on the other end and I heard the tone of your voice.By this time she told me to shut up and get out the store. I ask why are you talking to me with such hate and disrespect and I am not doing anything but trying to purchase earrings for Zekia's birthday. The woman who would not tell me her name said "You deserved to be talked to like that, so get out of the store".
By that time a few white women came into the store and one had a cell phone talking and the woman of the store left me hanging at the counter and push the button for the security guards to escort me out as she started waiting on the white women. I called the supervisor of the security guards and try to find out if this woman was really the store owner. I was told that she had the right to toss Zekia and myself out even though it was bad business because of the cell phone.
What made things even more difficult to understand was the tone of hate in this woman's voice but her voice and actions changed towards the white women even the one with a cell phone. I complained to the supervisor of the Hotel this retail shop was in (Crown Center Hotel in Kansas City) but no help all they would say that is it was not them that threw us out.
I was also told that trying to file a discrimination lawsuit against this white woman was a waste of time because it would be tied up in court and it would be a he said she said and no attorney would touch it. I have not experience such hate and embarrassment in all my life.
I asked if there was something in writing posted some the consumer would know if they would be tossed out for whatever reason and I was told not really, that it was something on the entrance but nothing to inform the public of a possibility that you will be tossed out and embarrassed by the store.
P.S. We refused to let ruin Zekia's birthday. I hope you can help us. This can not possibly be right.
