The city has instituted an "art" program to install street art. The most recent piece is a 18 foot tall pool-tile encrusted torso suggestive of a fat woman, located just beyond an unlucky citizens backyard line. From what I have been able to determine, the installed cost exceeds $100,000 paid to an italian sculptor. While its ugliness can be debated except for the people who actually have to live with it, its cost is outrageous at a time the city complains of a funding shortage. It is also situated in an area where it is completely out of scale.
This is a testament to the wisdom of separating government and art. Locally it has earned the sobriquet of "Coral Springs Woman" aka "Our Lady of Coral Springs". I'm thinking of putting a big apron on it. Then it would be art.
