Phil was my best friend for 7 years. We met when I worked for the Sacramento AIDS Foundation. He was like a brother to me, his own siblings wouldn't speak to him, hmmmm. He has a son, Jason who is now about 18.
When my parents passed away, he knew I had been left some money and asked to borrow to consolidate his debts. I loaned him $8,500.00 (on signature). Almost immediately, I started having a hard time getting payments. We agreed to $100.00 per month for the first year and $200.00 per month until it was paid in full (no interest).
I left California for Kansas and as soon as I left the state, he quit paying entirely. The last time I spoke to him and asked where my money was he said "Ya know, you're a real bitch Chris". $8,500. To Bitch just like that!
I tried small claims court but even if I could get back to California and handle that mess, I have no recourse because it is not possible to attach disability income and that is his only source of income as far as I know.
He plays a lot of B A C K G A M M O N online so he might find you there, but rest assured if he does, he won't think twice about ripping you off!!
