St. Matthews Churches have been around since the late 60's. It is the brainchild of Eugene (Gene) Ewing, one of whose companies is Twentieth Century Advertising. He has the highest income of any national evangelist, and lives in relative obscurity. He made his main money from writing the monthly letters for Oral Roberts, Rex Humbard, Marilyn Hickey and most the other evangelists who send out letters that look typewritten, with blue underlines & notes, and some kind of enclosed trinket for you to be blessed by or return along with your offering.
J.C. Joyce, one of Ewing's partners is a Tulsa attorney, (has worked with Bakker, Swaggart, Falwell, I believe) who has represented several of the top evangelists who got in trouble in the 70's 80's and 90's. Last I heard, JC Joyce, Gene Ewing and Robert Tilton (!) have joined forces to "reach the poor" of the US, using Tilton as the TV talent, Joyce for legal and strategy and Ewing for his computer program that lists the poorest zipcodes in each state, because these are the people who have no chance other than a miracle to break out of their poverty.
St Matthews Churches is Ewing's personal cash cow. Last I heard, he was living in CA, as a neighbor to Madonna and others, in Malibu area. His neighbors have little or no idea he is in "ministry."
