My fiance, I and child were home on a nice afternoon when a girl came to our door. Said that her and another had split up in the area that they were assigned to in our neighborhood and they were competing for a $15,000 scholarship and we could help by buying magazines. If we bought two magazines, we were eligible for a bonus pack of "gift certificates" to various popular restaurants in our area.
We purchased two magazines that the subscription was $35.00 each. I gave her 1 $35.00 check made out to Mags R Us in which she divided the down payment between the two magazines, so we still had a balance due on both. I was to send in the balance in 2-10 in order to start the subscription. We could cancel w/in three days which had to be done in writing. No phone number listed or e-mail addresses, nothing. I did not send in the other half, but did find Mags R Us on the internet.By the way, I looked at my checking account and the check I wrote to them was cashed 2 or 3 days after I wrote it out. That just struck me the wrong way.
They had a site that you could correspond with their company and I sent them an e-mail stating that I wanted either my money back or to buy just one of the magazines. The Web also stated that they would respond back to me w/in 2 days. That was over a week ago and I have heard nothing. They should be reported to the Better Business Bureau, if they haven't already.
I don't know where to go from here... I feel cheated and will have a hard time trusting people coming to the door to sell anything.
