They sent my half-blind elderly neighbor (who lives on a modest fixed income) a letter telling her she'd won $255,000. Needless to say, she was delighted!
The letter came with a "check" for $4,685 to cover the $3,950 processing fee they'd need to get before releasing the rest of the funds. The check, needless to say, was no good.
Fortunately, my neighbor checked with me before sending off the processing fee. And our bank confirmed that the $4,685 check was fraudulent. I called the (canadian) number provided to talk to the "claim agent". When i took him to task for raising the hopes — and potentially ROBBING — my elderly neighbor, he laughed. And hung up.
How can people do this??? What's wrong with them.
