We did not fall for the scam, but came close. I responded to an ad for a Japanese spitz. Marie Jones emailed back. She wanted assurance from me that her puppy would be going to a good home. After I wrote back again, she sent me an email that stated she was located in Colorado and all I would have to pay is a transport fee of $330. She also asked for my name, city/state, address, nearest airport, and phone. I wrote back with my information but said I needed to have a phone conversation first before proceeding. Marie then wrote back that she is deaf and dumb and therefore cannot talk on the phone. She further stated that her husband is a truck driver and was not home now, but I could talk to him in a few days, but by then the puppy could be with me. I wrote back that, "I am very uncomfortable not to have a conversation with someone before going through with this." I went on to write, "Can you provide me with a reference (i.E., the name and phone number of a satisfied pet owner to whom you have sold/given a puppy)? Maybe I can call them..." Also, I asked "what is the name and phone number of the pet transport service that you will be using? I would like the opportunity to check out their credentials." Marie responded that I could talk to her husband in a few days. I wrote back to forget it; "I have decided to adopt a dog at a local shelter and good luck adopting out your puppies." I then started to do some searching and came across this scam site. Whew! Did I ever dodge a bullet! I feel very badly for those that were not as lucky as me. Buyer please beware. The other thing that stands out about this is how poorly "Marie" communicated via email, which seemed a red flag. This person did not have a good handle on the English language. The spelling and grammar were atrocious, plus, her idiom seemed off somehow. To anyone that happens upon this scam site, I hope it is before the fact and not afterwards. Please adopt pets from your local shelter. I plan to.
