Consumer Report

Please be aware I am a retired Senior with very little computer skills.

On Monday May 7 I order a copy of PC Cleaner Pro online which I expected to be charged a total of $33.87. However, I received a receipt from SafeCart for the amount of $45.13 which ended up as a credit card charge of $46.11???

I then called I believe 1-855-4320727??? And explained what had just happened and requested the payment be changed from $45.11 to $33.87. I was asked several questions and eventually for remote access to my computer. This I authorized.

After what seemed to very close to an hour a Tech took me through many items and showed me about 3000 security problems such as spyware, malware, viruses and various software errors etc. At this point I believed I was talking directly with PC Cleaner Pro.

At this point in time this Tech advised that PC Cleaner would solve only a very limited number of these problems and was not really what I needed. I was then asked if I was aware of 'Best Buy', 'Staples', 'geek squad' or Office 'Depot'. He then opened my existing security program "Bell Internet Security Services' and made a strong point that all these errors would not exist if this product was doing the job properly. Note: I pay Bell Canada for this service which apparently it is not sufficient coverage for my needs.

I was then told that Office Depot could not provide adequate protection/security" and their system performance and response time would be slow. I was then advised that their service would cost "$45.95 199.95 (flat) and varies between $200.00 to $500.00 and is only good for 7 business days / 10 days".

Staples would charge me $425.95 and would send the computer to another repair company which would take 4 to 5 days. This contract would only be valid for 2 to 3 months.

However, "a Microsoft Technician would only charge $500.00, but would provide a 100% guarantee and use only certified tools to fix problems". His remote computer service would only be up to 45 minutes. This contract would be for 24/7 for three years. Also I would receive "Life Time Protection / Security"??? This service provides 3 way cleaning and 2 way protection???

After going through this extremely lengthy presentation I was turned over to a Supervisor (Top Gun). He would not give up trying to sell this package and kept lowering the price several times until somehow the price was in the $200.00 range. As PC Cleaner was apparently not what I really needed, according to SafeCart, I had a clear understanding with both SafeCart representatives that my credit card charge would immediately be cancelled - a lie!!!

This total performance with the two SafeCart representatives took well over an hour. The conversation was only over a few minutes when I received a second telephone call from Harold (SafeCart) who tried to take me though the same dance and eventually he also agreed the charges would not be forwarded to the Credit Card (MasterCharge) company.

Immediately after I hung up from these calls, which I should have done much earlier, I eliminated all email to and from PC Cleaner Pro along with any data received from SafeCart. Consequently because of my stupidity, I now am in debt to MasterCard in the amount of $46.11 and have nothing to show for all the aggravation. Yes, I did remove your Code number. Real stupid!!! However, I do have some of the conversations recorded.
