E-Pubishing Rip-off or Just Lazy Management?

I submitted two novels to this e-publisher in May. The owners were overseas at the time, but contacted me and told me that they liked both novels and would like to carry them on the web site. They stated they would not be able to download them onto their site until July. I told them I was willing to wait until then.

They created covers for both books and I was very pleased with them. The books were downloaded and I was told that royalty checks were issued quarterly. Their web site caters to the adult reader, so since my two novels are of the psychosexual thriller genre, I decided to post them with a company who focused primarily on this type of reading. I had researched the company before I signed their contract and did not find anything to make me believe that they were scam artists.

I never received any follow-up correspondence from the company after I returned the contract. Nor did I ever receive any royalty checks from them. I've been trying to contact them through their web site for the past 6 months, pleading with them to respond to my notes and either let me know something about the books and/or to remove them from their site altogether.

Chris Brown is/was the primary agent for this company. The last time I tried to sign on to the site to see if my books were indeed still there, it appeared that the site has been dissolved. I can only imagaine why!

If anyone has any knowledge of the whereabouts of Mr. Chris Brown and his e-publishing company, I sure would appreciate the info. I have no idea if my books sold or not, but if they did, I sure didn't see any of the money.

I'd be a liar to say that I wasn't concerned about the money, but I'm more concerned about the fact that Mr. Brown and his company have my two copyrighted novels in their possession and refuse to respond to my request for update/action.

I can't even file a report with the Better Business Bureau because I have no idea of their actual physical address. My last recourse will be to consult with an attorney, but I thought I'd try this route first—to see if there is anyone else out there who has been ripped off by them. Or maybe I'm not being ripped off—maybe I'm just being ignored.
