We received a mailing promising a free 7-night cruise for attending a 2-hour presentation.
The presentation was a pitch about travel services. We declined, and were given a packet of information about the "free" cruise and bonus round-trip airfare.
"Free" at this point involved separate payments of $98 and $70 in fees to register our "prizes". The packet of info that arrived in response to these payments included involved instructions about booking 90 days in advance, etc. It also included requirements for further registration, and additional fees. The total would have have come to several hundred dollars. So much for "free".
There were also deadlines for these registrations and payments, which we entirely missed. But having seen how the payments just kept adding up, we decided the whole thing was not worth it. There are bona-fide cruise deals for honest prices.
Losing $168 was a lesson. We did get a free lunch out of it.
