Consumer Report

I received a call (no number provided) from a "David Williams" (based on his accent, probably a (phoney name), supposedly from the "cancellation department" of Local US Pages On Line" claiming we had requested a cancellationof our "advertising" with them. He "verified" our obviously public knowledge information - i.E. Company name, address, principals, etc... I advised him that I had never heard of them, had no need to cancel. He said they would be sending me a bill for $600.00 (plus some odd amounts I could not understand) for the "last year" of service, and that if I "cancelled" that would be all I would "owe". But if I did not "cancel" they would be sending 2 bills, the one for "last year" and the one for this year since my "contract" would remain in force if I did not "cancel". And I would be getting a letter form their "legal" department.

I realized it was an attempted scam, told him that I could not "cancel" a non-existent account or service. If I had cancelled obviously, it would have "proven" I accepted the fact there was an account or contract. I requested the name of the person who had supposedly made any agreement for a service with them etc... Or any proof of any; previous contact, much less contract. I KNOW we NEVER use outside ad services online. I am the only one who could have spoken to anyone and I know I would never make any such cotract, so I knew he was lieing. He told me he was "only the cancellation department", and that those things were in other departments, for which miraculously he has no numbers or contact information. Duh!

I asked him for the supposed url where my "advertising" was put up for the last year. He gave me www.localuspagesonline.com. The only thing with that address is an ad to "use their services" which you would have to click on to get through. There was no option to see "listings", without becoming entrapped in the sign-in - which would I guess give them all the info to do a scam on site visitor. Needless to say, the phone number is blocked, so I cannot help you with that.

This seems to be a "new" scam, so maybe they have not gotten too many yet and this report can prevent it. It would be targeted at small businesses. And maybe when then have one where different employees do the payment side from the executive side, they will fool a few... I do everythng, so it didn't work.
