Received an e-mail from supposedly Mystery Shopper group advertised on Craigslist, received a check on the following Tuesday for 3250.00, claimed I should deposit check and proceed with 2850.00 cash to the nearest Western Union office and send the money to another mystery shopper. The contact used the name of John Elliott and requested the following:
The following information would be required from you as soon as you
have sent the money out.
1. Full Name of Sender (Your Name and address)
2.10 digit confirmation number (MTCN-NUMBER) which would be given to you by the western union agents after you have sent money.
3. Amount sent (after deducting western union charges) you will have to
deduct western union charges from $2,850
I will be expecting the above details from you as soon as you complete
the first assignment so that we can assign the second assignment to
you today.
The MTCN-NUMBER allows them to approach the Western-Union office to recover the transfer.
I was waiting for the check to clear before proceeding with the transfer.
Fortunately, my bank held the check and called me to let me know it was a forgery and is pursuing the purpretator.
