I recieved a call from a lady who led me to believe that "Stanford Who's Who" would be honoured if i would register with them - based on my small business experience. I thought it was odd but was flattered and thinking it was associated with Stanford University in the USA - i agreed to chat with her. After about half an hour on the phone she finally mentioned the cost! I was a bit intimidated by her insistence that it was all such a huge privilege and that the business would benefit in a big way by receiving networking contacts. I agreed to a basic membership in return for the service and paid $611.14 on the 03/28. On or around the 05/02 my credit card was charged $182.65 (which i most certainly did not approve).
I then recieved another call from a man at Stanford Who's Who wanting to confirm my delivery address for a book or some item - i confirmed my address but at no time confirmed my bank account details. They then charged me $538.02 on the 05/05. I immediately called my bank and cancelled any payments to this organization. Recently i received another call from this group telling me it was time for the next step of the program where they add me to yet another database "Who's Who" profile page - i immediately asked the caller if there was a charge and he said yes! Somewhere around $380!!! I told him i was not interested and about the previous amounts taken from my account without my permission and he became quite intimidating and told me he couldnt believe i didn't want to increase my business by going to the next level. I stood my ground and he finally gave up! All round a very unpleasant experience...
