Beware of mice! - pods delivery and customer service

I recently had a horrible experience with PODS and wanted to make other consumers aware of it.
My husband and I recently purchased our first home in Amityville, NY.
While waiting for our closing date we decided to stay with my inlaws to save money for our home. We were moving form a decent sized apartment and had a lot of furniture and clothing that needed to be stored while we stayed with my inlaws. PODS seemed to have the best rate and assured us that storing it in their “temperature and pest Controlled” warehouse was a better idea than storing it in my inlaws driveway. The price to store with them was only an additional $20 or $40 a month so we decided to do it.
A month and a half later we closed on our new home, the POD was delivered in our new driveway. We opened our POD and quickly realized all our belongings, furniture, boxes, clothes, were COVERED in mice feces. Then getting deeper into the POD we see that my many of my suits were chewed up. We had to throw away blankets, clothing, toys which could not be saved or cleaned.
I called PODS immediately to let them know what had happened. They representative was very nice, told me to take a lot of pictures, which we had already done, and we would be contacted in 24 hours. That was on Dec. 23. Because of the holiday I decided to give them a call on Tuesday 12/28/10. They assured me they were still processing my “claim” and that I would be contacted by the claims department in 24 hours. Another 2 days passed and I called again. Still they said they were processing my “claim” and that the claim company was extremely backed up from the holiday.
In the meantime we found 3 mice in our house and when the PODS driver finally came to pick-up the storage unit at 8am on New Years Eve, he cursed and screamed on the top of his lungs in front of our house in our new neighborhood. We were absolutely mortified.
Today I called and refused to get off the phone until someone gave me an answer. All I wanted was to be reimbursed for the fees I paid PODS. I do not think this was a lot to ask at all. It would probably total up to almost $600. Two of my suits that were ruined cost about $150 each, not to mention my step daughters toys we through out, blankets, sheets, etc, so I did not think this would be a difficult task. The customer service rep I spoke to “Peggy Larson” today told me if I wanted to speak to a manager or supervisor I would be waiting on her line for 8 hours and I was welcome to do so. I called back again, another customer rep put me through to the risk management department and said I would hear from their claims department within the hour.
Immediately the phone rang, it was the company that handles their claims. The representative “Nicole” told me that PODS is not responsible for infestation and that I would be reimbursed nothing. She also told me that the claim was just submitted today and not 2 weeks ago as I had been told day in and day out.
I was mortified that they could actually get away with that and not care at all about customer satisfaction. So again I called PODS in disbelief and they basically blew me off and.
I want to make all consumers aware of what they did. We just bought a house with every penny we had. We now have to buy new things because of this experience and they did it during the holidays which I find even more unbelieveable.
Beware of PODS, even if you buy their insurance your personal belongings are in danger and you may even bring pests into your home.
