Failed to pay what they promised!

I found a craigslist ad back in June for a delivery company offering a position on their team for a rate of pay of 1000.00 per week. After meeting with a manager I was called back to start training. Before I was able to start I needed to provide special cargo coverage insurance ($10,000) to protect the products that were being delivered in this case it was Avon cosmetics.
Upon filling out all of the forms, and basically sighning my life away i was introduced to many fees associated with this job.
Drug Screen Fee... I had to pay for this
Scanner Rental...?
Uniform fee... Which cosisted of 5 bright red shirts i would never wear.
The first couple of weeks were tough, and the cost of fuel was 350.00 to almost 500.00 per week depending on which routes you were doing. Total of 10 different routes for 10 days (2 work weeks) Very long hours... Any week could be a minimum of 50 hours, and some weeks over 70 hours... After 3 weeks I finally have my first check which net was 880.00? After gas and misc. Fees you are left with about 300.00? No overtime pay... 1/3 of what the craigslist ad promised.
I was told that the checks would get bigger, so I stuck it out for a little over 2 month's, and the checks got smaller, vehicle repairs were becoming more expensive, and it was costing me money to work for this company. The general manager Michelle was very dishonest about the routes pay structure, and continued making false statements, and as long as the customer was happy (Avon) that was all she was concerned with. I also found out that the Insurance I had to purchase which she referred would not provide me coverage out of state. She told the insurance company that i would not cross state lines, which was not accurate, because the routes would have me cross into Pennslyvania, and West Virginia weekly. If you don't give them 2 weeks notice they keep your last 2 paychecks. And if you leave before your first full 12 months you have a 400.00 deduction from pay for the Scanner Lease. This whole company scams drivers. Most drivers quit when the see their first check... I was told by other drivers that most drivers don't last the first week of training!
After speaking to some attornies I was told that this company has many lawsuits filed against them all over the country... Why is there no organization out there to protect the public from predators like Velocity Express, and what does this say about the ethics of companies like Avon who uses Velocity for deliveries. I know that companies like UPS, and Fedex don't have these issues!
