I have been going to H&R Block for a few years now, and have had an "ok" experience... Until I get home yesterday and have a letter in the mail from the IRS. I open it and it tells me I owe them over $6,000 in Federal alone. I took the letter down to the H&R Block office I did my taxes at and they told me I did not supply all of my W2's, so I pull out my copy of the return and show them I indeed DID bring everything into them. They review everything and tell me "i'm sorry, i didn't see this one". Then continued to tell me since my husband and I worked at the same place that they thought it was a duplicate W2 and just set it aside. This was a $20,000 "miskey". They told me that they will only pay $5,000 of the mistake and we would have to pay the rest. Then they tell me this is not including the fees I will now owe the state, which comes to a total to around, $1,700. I told them that it was their mistake and they should have to pay ALL of it. The lady at the desk tells me that the "piece of mind" only covers up to $5,00 plus any interest and penalty's. I proceeded to ask her if they have an E&O policy (errors and omissions) she of course does not know what I am talking about. Before I Leave the office, the lady tells me that she will contact me and let me know if the claim is approved. I ask her what do you mean if it is approved. So I am stuck knowing if I have to fight this or if they will be HONEST and pay it. I leave the office and come into work to call the headquarters to speak with a supervisor. I asked him if H&R Block has an errors and omissions endorsement on their insurance policy. He tell me NO. I asked him if he was out of his mind and I would be contacting my attorney. Never in a million years would I go back to H&R Block to get my taxes done.
