I hired castle windows which was my first mistake. They send a smooth talking sales guy to your home who promises you the world on a silver platter. The BEST windows, the best deal, the best warrantys etc... I gave a deposit of 11 hundred dollars which left roughly a little under 3 grand to pay. I told the sales guy that I wanted to use my home equity line of credit but inquired as to who did their financing in case I might get a better interest rate. He told me they dealt with several different institutions and since I have strong credit I would get the best deal available. What a joke! They deal with SLM/sallie mae only.
After telling him to not submit anything untill I had investigated my options I received a payment book from SLM financial with no info on what my interest rate is or how long I will be paying. My payments are about $67.00/month. I decided to double up to get it payed off since all attempts to reach them were futlle. I payed a full 12 months in this manner, strict instructions tell you not to send a payment without a coupon. After the 12 month coupon book ran out I waited for another. It never showed up untill may (my last payment had been in december).
Now my payment slips are coming monthly. There is also still a balance of over 3 thousand dollars. Pretty amazing that my balance is increasing after paying in 12 hundred dollars.in tiny letters in an inconspicuous spot their is a sentence explaining that if you want money applied to principle you must mail it to this address. Of course different from the norm. This whole experience with both castle windows and SLM have left me disgusted with large business'. Many more issues have transpired but it would require the writing of a novel. Suffice to say do not hire castle windows and do not borrow money from slm/sallie mae. You will save yourself a lot of trouble and quite possibly your sanity!!
