The billing practices of World Gym in Sheffield Village/Elyria are highly questionable, and they will refuse to let you cancel your membership even if you pay the buy-out fee.
World Gym had my credit card on file, and took the money directly out of my account.
One day I noticed that World Gym overcharged my account 40 extra dollars.
I questioned these charges to the General Manager "Justin Hopkins", and he described the charges as "Standard Service Fees" that were issued by their billing company.
I stated that the 40 dollar fee was not in my contract, and Justin Hopkins responded by threatening to take me to small-claims court. He warned me of litigation and legal problems if I didn't pay it off.
He offered to reduce the amount to from 40 to 20 dollars, although remained insistent on collecting some of the "service fee". Still not satisfied, I issued a stop-payment with my credit card and brought in a check to pay off the remainder of the balance, and requested a cancellation of my account.
Justin was holding the cancellation form right in front of me, and flat-out refused to let me have it, even when I offered to pay the $100 buy-out fee. I have an 18 month membership at $21.24 a month, and I am unable to cancel.
World Gym may double-dip into your bank account, so it is best to pay by check to avoid this from. The General Manager may make litigious threats if you don't pay their "service fees".
