Yesterday I got a phone call saying that I'd won a $1,000 shopping spree. Being a girly 19 year old, this made my day! I spoke on the phone for a good 20 minutes about the terms and conditions and learned that the catch was that I had to pay for 20 of my 48 months' worth of magazine subscriptions. Once she reeled me in, I gave her my debit card number (huge mistake!) Right after, my mom asked why I was so excited and I told her what I'd won. She made me go to an ATM and take out the money I had in my account. I was grateful this happened over Christmas break when I was home so that I was able to act quickly. I preceded to call this back "MIBI Enterprise" (954-429-8912) that originally called to inform me that I'd won. It rang for 2 minutes with no answer, no message machine. The sketchiest part was that this was on a Sunday afternoon. Today, I called 1-866-251-7975 (Active Periodicals Company) during its office hours, but again, no answer... So I left a message. I went to the bank and told them I want a new card and to watch out for "magazines" or any other ridiculous charges. Now my only problem is that I can't cancel these magazines coming my way! There's no way I am going to pay $700 when I have the right to cancel and can't get through.
