Recently my family visited a golden corral in Grove city Ohio. Never going to a golden corral we stook back and watched how the system worked. When you enter the doors you come to a drink station then to the cashier. As i looked up towards the ceiling at their menu i noticed they also sold to go plasic cups for I believe $2.50. As we come to the drink station I noticed the drink fillers were holding up a plastic pepsi cup asking people what they wanted to drink. When I watched closer I saw smaller plastic cups that were the cups for the standard buffet drinks. When I approached the drink filler I asked him If that was the drink cup that was standard with the meal he said no. During this time 90% percent of the people never questioned the cup situation so i went and started eating my meal. During the long period we were there I noticed many of the To Go cups were being left on the tables when people left. I started asking people who were at the tables and had these cups if they knew they were paying HIGH prices for this to go cup and many said no.
I called today the Golden Corral corporate office and spoke to the lady that is over the Golden Corral in Grove City Ohio. After telling her what I observed she said that is not something the Golden Corral supports and referred me to the Franchise Owner of this location which was the Frischs Corporation. I called and spoke to a lady at Frischs corporate office who was very rude. I explained what was going on and besides being rude she didnt give a damn at all. I would estimate during the time i entered the Golden Corral and left over a 2 hour period more than 300 cups or more were sold. After spending time getting more run around and rude people with both the Golden Corral corporate office and Frischs I decided to let the public know whats going on. I also googled - GOLDEN CORRAL COMPLAINTS I was not shocked to see under this Google search many people had complaints about this company.
Even if times wernt hard like they are now why scam people and hold up cups like they are the regular drinking cups when you know most peoeple have no clue you charge outragious prices for them. Golden Corral says they dont support this but asking them if they are going to stop it they cannot say no. I would immagine chain wide hundreds of thousands of dollars are made on these cups and I would estimate many customers dont know they are paying for them.
This is a scam that should be stopped immediately.
They should take lesson from other buffets on how to give someone a styrafoam cup to go if they want it.
