I'm a winner! I received a check for $4,930.00 that looks very authentic. They want the same amount from me!

I received a check for $4,930 that looks very authentic. The accompanying letter says it is to pay Non-resident Government Service tax in Canada where the "annual promotional draw" that declared me a winner was held. I even have a very official looking claim number and the wonderful news that I have been approved to receive the sum of $85,000, payable to me by cashier's check.
Being naturally skepical of such missives, I checked the complaint to see if anything like this had been reported, and found out that it indeed has.

The logos for several companies are replicated on the bottom of the letter, giving their "promotional draw" a nice touch of authenticity. The companies shown include JC Penny, Macys, K-Mart, Costco, Home Depot, Walmart and Western Union. Who doesn't use at least one of these stores once in awhile? I can see people being drawn into this scam, and find it appalling.
