Beware of moving company scam, quotes one thing and charges another

I am writing this report, so others don't get "BURNED" like I have and others on usacomplaints.com. I started investigating moving companies back in December. The original move was going to be from Fair Lawn, NJ to Bloomfield, NJ or about 15 miles away.

After changing the location to my new home in Manalapan, I had Guy give me a new estimate, with the cost being 3 workers for 3 hours and the cost of driving 1 hour to Manalapan, or in other words 4 hours worth of work time at $85 a hour.

As others, who have reported on this website, if I would have known about the SCAM, would have never used them. Guy seemed like a VERY nice dispatcher, so I thought I could trust them, especially since they gave me their ICC and DOT numbers.

I also was quoted, like the other reports 2 wardrobe boxes and 5 dish packs. They showed up on time, which is better than the other reports, but just like others came with a BUDGET Rent A Truck, which I was frankly surprised about. As the other reports indicated, they also DID NOT come with any tools, and had to provide them to dissemble my bed and my entertainment unit. I was frankly suprised.

When they first came in at 10 AM, I expected them to tell me the REAL COST of the move, based upon seeing my one bedroom apartment. I had 3 wardrobe boxes that were empty, and other boxes they had available to use.

They also knew that we were going to make ONE STOP to pickup my mother's new mattress at SLEEPY'S warehouse in Carlsbad, NJ which was on the way, and drop it off in Freehold at my mother's new Assisted Living Facility called the Brookside. They told me, NO PROBLEM, I would only be charged for the EXTRA TIME to pickup and drop off. I figured that would only be an extra hour at BEST.

Just like the others, the quoted 3 hour move, plus an hour worth of driving time (even with the stop off in Freehold) took 10 HOURS to complete. I was in SHOCK to say the least.

Also, I had asked for the count of the number of boxes that were extra charge, and they NEVER told me, ANYTHING. Later on, I found that they had left a end table and lamp at my old apartment.

When they arrived in Manalapan, it was now 5:30 PM. Almost, 7 1/2 hours after they started the move. They started unloading my possessions, dropping off boxes that DIDN'T even say where they were supposed to go, STORAGE down the street or in my new apartment. How was I supposed to know, what when where. Their foreman told me NO PROBLEM, he knew where everything needed to go. Again, I asked for the BILL of LADING without a response back.

They finished my apartment move, before taking the rest to storage around 7 PM. To my suprise, not only did they charge $850 (10 hours @ $85), but more importantly charged me $325 for packing supplies, which included charging me for 2 wardrobe boxes, EXTRA at $50 per box. Later, on I discovered that they bought the box at HomeDepot Moving.com, which charges of $21.50 per box or $64.32 for 3 wardrobe boxes. That is more than 100% markup on the boxes.

In total, I was charged for a total of another 10 extra boxes, of course that weren't marked that maybe in storage right now. I frankly have NO IDEA what in is the individual boxes, as they weren't MARKED.

It isn't like I haven't done other moves, having gone across country from NJ to California and back twice, but had always used National Moving Companies, like PAUL ARPIN twice. They also, marked EVERY BOX on my manifest.

Also, just like the other people, the workers were looking for MORE MONEY for tips. Now, since the job was charged at $850 for just the work done, I gave them $120, or 15 percent of the total job. The foreman was obviously complaining that they deserved more, and told him I would discuss it with Guy on Monday, February 3rd.

When I spoke to Guy, I told him about all the things that were left in my apartment, such as NOT EVEN touching the bathrooms or much less the KITCHEN goods in the closets, and would have to rent a VAN at Enterprise for the DAY on Tuesday, February 4. Also, remember they had forgotten my end table and lamp. He told me that he would discuss the issue with his boss Val. NEVER GOT AN ANSWER BACK!

I called repeatably leaving voice mail messages and NO RESPONSE back. Then, finally Mr Yuvol (aka Val) answered the phone and I explained it do him and seemed NO TO CARE, that it was my problem. I had to spend another $84 on the Enterprise Rent a VAN, because of their workers stupidity.

As other said, they workers, including the foreman could HARDLY speak English.in this day and age, it is hard to believe. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau of NJ, and the Englewood Chamber of Commerce, but doubt that I will hear a response back.

I have even reported them to Moving.com (Move.com) the website that referred me, from RENT.com to A-Trans Moving in the first place. Also, reported them to Relocation.com which is another website, that works with APARTMENTS.com to make sure they know about their practices.

The response from Beth Sinur of Move.com was you could report them to the American Movers Association, if they are even a member. Something tells me that they AREN'T.

When I went to consumer complaints today, I was in shock, how many people had reported them. Especially, in one report where they had changed their name from Atraf Moving to A-Trans Moving. Probably, because they had 43 COMPLAINTS under the other company name. Convenient, RIGHT!

I have also called repeatably for my Bill of LADING for IRS Tax purposes, without any phone calls back from A-Trans Moving. I am going to call my BankAmerica and see if their is ANYTHING that can be done with the almost $1200 of total charges, plus the need to hire the Enterprise Van for $84. A VERY EXPENSIVE move for a one bedroom apartment to go only 47 miles. OUTRAGEOUS!

I have made a report to the US Department of Transportation's website of nccdb. Fmcsa. Dot. Gov, whether or not it gets any response. WHO KNOWS!

In closing, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY for your move, or you will be sorry and the consequences of your possessions are at RISK.

BEWARE OF THEIR SCAM! Just because they have been doing business for 10 years doesn't mean ANYTHING! CALL to MEDIA, as I PLAN ON DOING
