On 02/05/09 was called by my Dispatcher, Jay Crain to go see Safety in Fontana CA. I asked him what they wanted. He told me it had to do with a trailer that I took to Ft. Collins CO. I said to him I thought that was a dead issue since I spoke to him and his supervisor several weeks prior regarding this incident. That his boss at the end just said that Jay was going to make a report of this conversation and any future incidents may result in my termination.By the way it was a three way conference call. Anyways, Jay said he didn't know why they wanted to talk to me. Went to Fontana, checked in with Safety. Basically, Safety officer input my employee number then asked me to step out for a few minutes. He called me back in an very coldly told me that I was terminated. I asked him what for. He said because I was an unsafe driver, involved in two accidents due to unsafe speeds, and for moving a trailer that was marked unserviceable. Now here's the funny part. I haven't been issued any moving/parked violations by any law enforcement agencies except written warning (not having trailer registration paper) since working for Werner in August. As for the trailer, told him no way did I do such thing. He said trailer had a "Do Not Use" sign on it. I told him that that wasn't true, there was no sign on trailer. If there was a sign I wouldn't have touched it. This guy didn't even want to hear me explain my side of this so called incident. That 2.5 wks earlier told my dispatcher Jay Crain and his boss the same thing. What finally came out from Jay's boss was that another dispatcher failed to input the trailer into the system as unserviceable. That unfortunate for me I took it. Told them if it was unserviceable why did Ops ok'd it me to use it? On 02/05, the story was that I did received a message telling me it was unserviceable and that I took it anyways. After serving in the Air Force for 20 years one would think I have the ability to read and understand English. Right now I'm in the process of fighting their false termination. As stated by other terminated employees, if I was such an unsafe driver, why did Werner allow me to run for another 2.5 wks? I strongly believe that rather than Werner management firing the dispatcher for failing to do their job, its easier to get rid of the driver. Their slogan: "Werner Cares" makes me sick. Yeah, Werner Cares only if it involves their management, dispatchers, back office personnel. As for the drivers, well, we're disposable. It's cheaper for them to terminate drivers because the pool list is almost endless due to the recession. Do not sign on. Go to CRST or any another company.
