My mother pearl wood will be 93 years young may 16th. She has been a resident at sunrise of north hills, spring forest rd. Raleigh, nc 27609 since april 17th. When she was being courted by the staff of sunrise, morgan lamphere painted a really nice picture and told my mother, sister and myself that she would be taken care of when my mothers assets went away and to keep the director of sunrise north hills informed of the finanical situation. We knew she had only 1-1/2 to 2 years of assets to keep her in such a nice place. Sunrise was made aware of this at that time. Kathy vidal was approached in may and july that money was getting short. My sister and i went to social services of wake county nc. To apply for medicaid in july. I knew that my mothers money would be gone by december. Well she wad denied the services because her assets were over $2,000.00 at the time and was told to return to reapply when assets were below $2,000.00. We returned to social services jan. 12th 2009 filled out the application with a very nice applications supervisor. I heard nothing from the application so on monday jan. 19th i started making calls to ss of wake co. Made calls through jan. 22nd 2009 and e-mailed on the 22nd. The next day i received a call from s/s of johnston co. And received return e-mail from wake co. That the application had been sent to johnston co. She is a resident of wake co. Since april 17th. My sister and i have had conversations with terri zimmerman several times about my mother continuing ot be a resident of sunrise. Some of her comments. Or questions to me and my sister: is she on a waiting list? No one at sunrise ever said that we had to fill out anything for a waiting list. We assumed that she was on a waiting list by all the comments made by prior directors morgan lamphere and kathy vidal. "ms wood" you will have a place when your money runs out. Well, now we are being told by terri zimmerman, executive director, that they have no place for her, she is not on a waiting list, i have done all that i can do to get her a place. My question now is what is a family suppose to do? My sister is on a fixed income and my retirement funds have all but gone away with the econonic crunch. Johnston co. S/s is still processing application for medicaid. My mother is pretty much wheel chair bound and needs constant care, more than i personally can provide. What do i do and where do i go?
