Complaint / Review
Lillington Police Department
Cruelty to my companion dog

I was awakened by Officer Karley at approx. 10:15 PM on the above date. When the dog answered the door he asked that I restrain the dog which I did and then I invited them in. Upon entry I was notified that I was under arrest and at first I thought they were going to take me in my underwear. Suprisingly I was allowed to put pants and a shirt on.

I live on full disability due to a double back injury and notified the officer of this. I depend on my dog for a varity of reasons. When I asked Officer Karley (hope I have his name right) if I could put the dog in his compound outside I was refused... Period. I asked again and again and was refused again and again. I could have easily put him out (6 feet to the back door) wit absolutely no threat to the officers. Still, against my urgent requests I was denied to let the dog into his pen instead of leaving him in a small bedroom with no food and no water. I all but begged this guy to allow the dog to go outside where he had food and water. Then officer Karley's demeanor changed to a terse level, handcuffed me and away I went super-tight handcuffs and all. Most of the transport to the police station conversation involved my dogs status but Officer Karley conveyed to me that the dog was not his problem.

If I couldn't make bail I would have been jailed until Jan. 8.

My dog would have died had that been the case. As I said... Officer karley purposely left my dog confined in a beedroom with no food and no water with NO regard to my situation with relationship to my dog.

After doing a bit of research and according to the ASPCA CrueltyGlossary I quote:

"Animal Cruelty: Acts of violence or neglect perpetrated against animals are considered animal cruellty. Some examples are overt abuse, dog fighting and cockfighting, and denying a companion animals the basicnecessities of care, such as food, water or shelter".

I tried to contact officer Karley by phone. Since there were no phone numbers on the paperwork (believe it or not), I called the Bail/Bondsman for a number to the Sheriffs office and he gave me 910-893-9111. After two tries officer did return my calls but chastized me for dialing the "911" emergency numbers and that my issues hardly quilified as an "emergency". I informed that the number given me was by the bail/bondsman and that I was not aware of how they do things in Lillington, that every else I ever lived did NOT have a 7-digit emergency number but a simple "911" three digit number. I had no idea this was an emergency in lew of a simple "911". Officer Karleys number is 910-897-5079 and I fully expect harassment from this guy given half a chance.

Officer karley showed his annoyance, tride to intimidate me, told me he didn't care who I complained to concerning my dog, and then told me he had real work to do and hung up.

With his less than pleasant attitude, this guy does NOT reflect everyone I encountered at the Sheriffs / Lillington Police dept. All others treated me with concern and respect

I will let this complaint go away with an apology letter hand delivered and endorsed by the Magistrate, Mr. R. Romero
