It is all true, read the other consumer complaintss. When getting into trucking do not lease or buy a truck. Be a company driver and get the experience. Now is not the time to take that big step especially if you are new. They will try their hardest to hook you in. Anybody that claims they are making money is a liar or there is so much more to it. They are painting a rosey picture for you of a magical non-existant place. I did'nt fall into that abyss but I know others who did. The trucks get about 7-8 miles a gallon and the drivers who own/lease will try and tell you otherwise to hook you into taking over their truck. I watched and heard that many times. Being female they think I have "sucker" wrote all over me and try to lure me in to their carnival of lies.
You will get miles if you are an absolute pain in the butt just to shut you up. I would get sometimes 3 preplans back to back just to keep me quiet and busy for a 2-3 day stint at a time. I maybe turned 3 loads down possibly 4 in the 2 month span I drove solo. My truck was filthy, smelled like someone died in the darn thing and it had BEDBUGS!!! I killed them but the bites I had took over a month to heal because I am diabetic. I got a new mattress but they were in the allegedly steam cleaned upholstry.
Your driver manager is out for themselves. You are a mule out there to make money for them. Beware of SWIFT's McCallister mile system. That system has a Scottish name for a real tight reason. It is zip code to zip code or I even heard township to township. Whatever it is another way of stealing from you the driver. You may get a 7-800 mile trip but 50 miles not in there are free. So figure around 200 free miles for ole SWIFTy at least per week. You are driving them and not getting paid a penny. Remeber penny as that is what you will make with SWIFT pennies, and not nickels or dimes. Too check you preplan. You may have say 65 empty miles then when you trip comes out assigned to you it will only have 15 empty. Another way to rob you blind. They will not give you pike passes and expect you to pay that out of your pocket. The most I paid out of my pocket in one week was $70.00. (2) $30.00 tolls through Ohio, and scale fees. The scale fees I can see but the tolls, that is outrageous. I asked for pike passes. That falls on deaf ears. I was kinda sorta offered another truck but after killing the bedbugs and somewhat getting the smell out of mine I couldnt chance going through that again. My junky smelly truck was set at 64 not 62 like the rest. I camped in there. Kept my stuff packed in bags and suitcases afraid to let my stuff touch anything in there. Too nasty and dirty to live in even in a camping atmosphere.
SWIFT is a starter company and their only purpose is to benefit you with experience, You will NOT get rich. Do NOT become a owner operator. If someone tells you otherwise they think you are a fool and will rob you blind to their own benefit. P.T. Barnum once said there is a sucker born every minute and SWIFT will capitalize from that.
