Complaint / Review
Richard Edward Yanis, Cape Girardeau Police Department
ALL belongings stolen

On or about the 11th of July while preparing for my shower, Richard Edward Yanis (who, at the time was my fiance and we were anticipating an August 3rd wedding date) called me out into the living room of the apartment where we resided. (owned by Bob Blatney of B&B rentals @ 2007 Wisteria Drive) we lived in apartment C.

I explained that I was preparing for my shower, however, I went out into the living area where I discovered Richard Yanis with a Cape Girardeau police officer.

Being totally unaware of the reason and/or any circumstances, I was told by this officer that I was being taken into custody.

To shorten this story, let me say that Richard Yanis had called the police department and reported that I was trying to commit suicide! What a farce!

A younger officer than the one I originally observed conversing with Richard Yanis asked me to come with him. I asked him to hand a dress to me so that I would at least be presentable out in the public.

I put on the little "house dress" (actually a robe) that this officer gave to me and rolled out of the apartment with his guidance. (At this point, I need to clarify that I'm in a wheelchair and non-ambulatory)

Richard had helped me (along with my housekeeper and two hired males) load my whole life into an 18 foot Budget moving van and we had unloaded it into this apartment. I paid that month's rent.

I had moved from Savannah, Tennessee and we had planned an August 3rd small wedding in Cape Girardeau. My friends and family were to come to the apartment and it would be a small and informal affair.

Richard stated that he had invited a few friends from his place of employment to attend as well. (Richard Yanis works at the Drury Hotel call center in a bi-lingual capacity for taking reservations, etc.)

After being put into a police car, I was driven to the police station, put into a cell and locked up - all the while being told only that I was not being taken into custody and STILL not knowing what was occurring.

After what seemed to be hours and with no conversation or acknowledgement from the many officers passing by-due to my physicality (I have Multiple Sclerosis along with all the issues that it presents) and with NO acknowledgement of my presence other than an occasional glance into this holding cell by an officer, I (unavoidably yet ashamedly) urinated all over myself and the cell floor.

Due to my physical diagnosis of fifteen years, I now have a neurogenic bladder along with many other health issues.

When I FINALLY managed to get the attention of one of the passing (and staring) officers, I explained what had occurred and he sent a "trustee" in to clean the cell floor.

At some point (the minutes and hours had become a blur) I was taken to the hospital and had to wait there until a social worker or counselor showed up.

THEN and only then did I know what was happening. She informed me that Richard Yanis had reported to the police department that I was suicidal.

I had to giggle at that point (the counselor giggled as well) and inform her that no way was I suicidal, however, homicidal was more like it! (still giggling)

This counselor then helped me to make a few plans and did her very best to alleviate my anger and get me back to the issue at hand.

I spent 4 (four) days at a motel there in Cape Girardeau and with the blessed help of this counselor, I was given a bus ticket to leave the area and go to my family.

During this four day period, Richard FINALLY returned my life time companion pet who happens to be fifteen years old.

RICHARD EDWARD YANIS still has possession of all my medical equipment, medication, and EVERY single thing I own, including my clothing.

Even the food that I had was locked away from me in HIS sleeping area - he had stolen my bank card and depleted my bank account because I did use my electric wheel chair and found my way to a convenience store. This did NO GOOD due to the account being drained by his useage.

I have collected antiques as well as have many left to me by not only my parents but also a grandparent. I had a huge baseball collection as well.

The total value of all my possessions is approaching $65,000 that Richard Edward Yanis currently holds.

My electric wheelchair and my computer and all accessories for it total over six thousand dollars alone!

The Cape Girardeau Police Department will NOT take a report unless I return to Cape Girardeau. I have had no personal contact with Richard Edward Yanis.

I have received several e-mail messages from him telling me what he will do with MY things unless I comply with HIS demands.

ANY suggestions? I've not yet found a lawyer that will work with me in this ROTTEN situation.

Being in another state, unable to drive, family members working and having no vacation time isn't something that will help at all either!

Angry beyond belief!
