We contracted West Point Relocation to move our belongings from NC in March. They agreed at an initially very reasonable price to move us from Durham to Hawaii. Then it went down hill rapidly...
The contract company in NC didn't show up until a day later than scheduled due to a driver's illness. When they came, I had asked them to box up our TV. They took it with them unboxed and wrapped only in a blanket and some bubble wrap. Our initial quote was for a certain amount of space, which I apparently exceeded (though I have NO proof of this). This caused our rate to increase by over 50%!!
We were told it would arrive in 30-90 days.in early June, we called to check on the status of our shipment. We had no contact with the company after they charged us the additional money. We were told that our items were being held in storage per our request. We had NOT requested this and upon further examination West Point agreed that this was in fact their error. We were told it would go out immediately and be in here in like 10 days.
Weeks passed with my husband calling the LA office every week to NO avail. We were told it was on it's way or that the items were on the ship in the port awaiting inspection. He spoke with supervisors and still got nothing. Our shipment was delivered on August 1st.
The movers brought our boxes to the house and refused to put them in the house. They said this was a curbside move only and they would put the items in the garage (which is 10ft from the front door!) or it would be another $175. As they were unpacking boxes, I could visibly see all the damage. Our boxes were all smashed and ripped open. I could even see things hanging out of the boxes, things like our stereo equipment! The TV arrived just as it had left our house with the movers, except someone had stuck half of a box around one side of it.
As I unpacked stuff, I noticed that something was broken in every box it seemed. We have 3 full boxes of broken items outside in the garage right now... We are going to file our claim with the moving company this week. We did not move a lot of furniture, but EVERY single piece that we did move is scratched, gouged, and/or dented. Also, they lost one box of my daughter's clothing. Two of our boxes had been opened and half the contents were gone! I also kept finding things inside the boxes that were not our items... Random things like a piece of a chair spindle and vacuum cleaner parts to a vacuum that I have never owned.
The whole process with this company has been horrific! I feel like we were severely overcharged and that our items were severely destroyed, to include things like family photographs. The customer service (if you can call it that) has been horrible at every end. I don't have much hope for the claim, but we shall see. I would NEVER recommend this company to move anything that you care about in the slightest bit.
