I should have known better, but I too had fallen for the kid selling magazines door-to-door claiming to earn money for his college tuition. Before you give that check, do a quick google on the company name, the P.O. Box no., or even the phone number. If you see a long list of complaints, such as I did with " Universal Subscription Agency", "P.O. Box 15187 Chesapeake VA", or "757 818 9497" you have been taken.
