We (party of 7) checked in Wed. Jan. 16 at Patong Pearl Resortel, Phuket Thailand for 5 days/4nights stay, occupying 3 rooms. Liquors, bottled waters, soda, etc. Lined up neatly on the table and inside the refrigerator with price lists. We were told that 2 bottled water is free per day.
The very innocent and cheap-looking bottled water were supplied in every room every day whether you consume it or not. On the 5th day, we checked out and we were charged an additional 30baht per bottle of water consumed (32baht for $1). It was very difficult to argue and explain your side to virtually non-english speaking staff. I ended up paying, otherwise they will not let us leave and we will miss our flight back home.
Turned out that there are 2 different brands of bottled water in every room. The nice looking bottle is free and the cheap-looking one is not free. The rip off: there's only 2 "real" free water and not supplied everyday. They add 2 bottles per day of the cheap-looking brand and thinking it's free, we all drink it.
I wonder how many victims of this "free bottled water" will come out and speak. I think the management should clearly emphasize which one is free and which one is not free.
