I reccently received a sweepstakes offer i the mail. I called in for it and at the end they offered me a bunch of things such as watches, magazines and an organizer. They told me that they would charge me like a dollar something for these magazines, and that I could pay over the phone with my debit card.
I told them that I had no money in my checking account, so I could not do that. They then informed me that if I had an over the limit credit card I could use that because if it declined I could pay through the mail then. I responded that I did not have one.
She then told me that if I used my debit card and it declined I could also then pay through the mail. I gave her my information and it declined as I suspected. I now checked my account balance today and they charged my card, without my approval, which put me into a negative balance.
I called the customer service number after struggling to find the number in the first place. The guy that answered told me pretty much that I was screwed because I gave them my information and by doing that that gives them my permission to charge the card.
He basically told me I was lying because they could not tell us to use a card knowing that it would not go through. But if you yell about it long enough they will give you your money back!
