Saint Matthew's Churches, Prayer By Letters
Direct mail scheme, confidence game

I am writing to inform you of a direct mail money scheme that is being sent to my address in Montana from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

These dastardly evildoers are targeting desperate, delusional, demented or feeble minded folks. Their goal is to fleece people by promising either magical wealth or punishment, depending on compliance to their very detailed instructions. You would have to be demented to think that sending them money will make you wealthy, but that is what they claim. They send copious pages of supernatural promises and vaguely veiled threats.

The first letter promised that if I put a magic handkerchief under my pillow, slept on it and sent it back to them the next morning all good things would come to pass in my life. I returned the magic hanky full of magically blessed boogers. They failed to comprehend that this meant, "no thank you."

The next mailed missive contained a request sheet that I was instructed to find in a sealed envelope and open ONLY "after sunset tomorrow." After mailing it back I was promised their prayers for "Healing and Blessings." Also included was testimony from alleged people who allegedly had miracles occur in their lives after doing as they were ordered by this group of greedy ghouls. I did not reply to this letter. They didn't understand that this meant, "I'm not interested."

The third letter was a real beauty, promising that "God wants you to prosper. Your financial increase has been fought by Satanic Forces, but God is not through." This one contained two pennies (blessed coins). They claimed God led them to pray for these coins and anoint them in prayer for a specific purpose in my life. They instructed: "Place these two coins in the shoes you plan to wear tomorrow. Leave them there tonight; one in each shoe" (like I would have put two coins in just one shoe if not directed otherwise — obviously they consider me feeble minded). They go on to promise what God will do for me, but only if I carefully follow their directives.

So far they hadn't asked me for anything. They intended to get me used to unthinkingly following their wacky directions and awaiting blessings. Again, I did not reply, yet they refused to give up on my soul (wallet).

The fourth letter is the clincher. They promise on the outer envelope that "today we preyed as we never preyed before — for you." Yes, they spelled it "prayed" but that isn't their real intent. They enclosed a picture of a large hand writing on a large check made out to "My Lord Jesus" on which they plead, "Don't forget God. Sow seeds unto God out of each check, to help us win lost souls to Christ."

This letter, sent to the OK Attorney General, the MT Attorney General, the U.S. Postmaster General, both Montana Senators and Oklahoma Senators and copied to them as well is my reply to this last attempt to deceitfully pick my pocket. Perhaps if someone in authority would notify them that I'm not interested in their absurd scam they'll get the message this time.

Statistically something good is bound to happen in people's lives for which this scheme could claim the credit. Statistically something bad is bound to happen as well, in which case it could be blamed on the sneaky suspicion that these good old folksy Okies, who only intend good fortune for little me, are really con artists and thieves, thereby causing the Boogie Man (God or Satan) to punish the very thought.

They quote the Bible promising the Lord will protect me. From whom do I need protecting, do you suppose? This reminds me of the old fashioned protection scheme the mob employs. If you believe there's a Lord to protect you, you must also believe there's a Satan to harm you. If you pay these people, they'll pray for you (prey on you) and the Lord will protect you from wicked Beelzebub.

Fortunately I am not desperate, delusional, demented or feeble minded, so their swindle will not work on me. But there are many suffering and desperate people in our nation upon whom these despicable devils prey. They wish to fleece them, rob them, separate them from their hard earned cash when they are at their weakest.

Does our country provide protection for those too weak to resist this form of mental assault on their assets? Often the ones who respond to this type of confidence game are those who can afford it the least. Are there laws to protect them? If not, I hope the U.S. Senators to whom I'm copying this letter will do something about that.

The return address given by these low life scum bags is: Saint Matthew's Churches, P.O. Box 2148, Tulsa, OK 74121.

Predators like these really do need to be stopped. I hope you will expose them for the criminals they are and halt them in their miserable tracks.
