My husband and I found out that we were victims of identity theft 2 weeks after our wedding when he went to the bank to deposit our paychecks & found out we had a negative balance! We had tons of charges originating from USA Credit, none of which we had approved. These charges caused us to incur several overdraft fees & we ended up being over $400 in the hole!
We went to the bank, disputed all the charges except one (which we had missed the 60 day deadline on b/c we somehow didn't get our statement in the mail that month). After calling USA Credit, I was treated very rudely & directed to the fraud dept. I contacted the police dept & put them in touch w / USA Credit. I received paperwork from USA credit concerning the first charge of $150 that I couldn't dispute w / the bank, filled it out, and mailed it back in. This was in August.
Since then, the police have found the person who stole my husband's identity (it was a close friend of his, sadly enough) & we have pressed charges against him. However, still nothing back from USA Credit. I realize the identity theft is not their fault, but I should have received our money back by now since I gave them all the info they needed w / our bank and the detective investgating our case.
