Along with many others I got an e-mail advertising free magazine subscriptions. How could I expect something for nothing? I know something about the publishing business and advertisers pay for ads based on circulation. So free subscriptions boost their circulation and this accounts for many of these free or almost free deals.
Another reason free subs are given out is because a subscription house (like NSS) pays a per subscription rate based on how many they sell, and they have a limited time to sell the subs.
When their time is almost up and they have a lot of unsold subs, their per sub price can go way up if they return these subs to publisher, so it is cheaper for them to give them away. I was told I would be contacted in plenty of time to cancel.
They did not contact me and billed my account for over $60 and I have gotten a run around when I called them. Beware.
