I worked there for about 5 or 6 months - it was the absolute worst job I ever had. I applied there thinking it was a publishing company, and took the job when they told me that I'd be making 60-100 grand a year. Let me tell you a little something about Manchester who's who from an insider prospective.
We would get about 10-20 cards every morning and call the #s on those cards. The boss's girlfriend who worked there got more (and the best ones) And what a coincidence, she was the top-seller!
We would get packets of paper with a script and we'd call the people on the cards and read the script. Anything anyone said, we had rebuttals thumbtacked around the desk and for every argument (too much money, let me think about it and call you back, let me ask my husband first etc) we would have a rebuttal posted there and just read off the pieces of paper. Then we'd offer a lower membership (one which wasnt mentioned before) The point was to start high (700 bucks) and then go down to 500,300, 200, and finally 100. So its not that they are pushy sales people - they don't even know how to be sales people - all they know how to do is read!
Before they were Manchester who's who, they had a number of different names. They kept having to change the name to cover up indiscrepencies. Also if you go on their website and look at the director - Richard Stone. More like Rick Lopez. And he's not the only one who changes his name - practically everyone who works there goes under a different name.
And if that's not fishy enough - they are no longer out of the Garden City location (that's where we were when I worked there) My boss at the time Matt Proman over-hired so many people and literally squished as many desks as he could into that office until there was barely room to walk. He did that just so he could break his lease and they could move (this was now the 4th or 5th time the company has changed locations - before Garden city they were in Rockville Centre and who knows before that)
We had to meet a quota in order to make commission. During my last few weeks I barely made quota b/c i just didnt care anymore and I made about 300 bucks a week. I did not once make even close to 60-100 grand a year. They scammed their employees and their customers. They also brainwash their employees to make it seem like its the best job ever. Meanwhile, the people who work there are extremely uneducated and immoral. But lets face it - anyone can read off a peice of paper.
