I received an invoice for $390.95 for "Book and 2 year listing and shipping." Knowing that I had ordered no book, I disregarded the bill. The same day, I received a phone call from a woman stating her name only as "o'Reilly." She asked for me by name, stated the invoice number she was calling for and said that there had been a gas leak in the building and so that I needed to send a new check to 33 Elm Street in Champlain, NY. Misunderstanding the name Horizon for "Verizon", I checked my account and told her the check had been cashed. She then asked for me to send a copy of the check front and back to fax number 514-907-1254. She also told me to call her on her "direct line" at 706-621-4092. She would not give a company number, just her direct line. Thinking this called sounded very odd, I called Verizon who informed me that "no, this had not happened." This is when I connected the bogus bill to the phone call. I looked the address up online and the only thing that came up was different fraud and scam sites. The name of the company was changed, but the address was the same on all of them. So, although I did not get ripped off, I am hoping that no one else does throught this report.
