Promises, promises, promises.
I, like every other person that responded to the John Beck
advertisements, was looking for a business of their own. I ordered the initial program on buying and selling tax leins. I received a box with 4 books, 4 CD's and a DVD, along with a letter that said to call within 48 hrs to get started. So I did.
That's when it all began. I received a call asking me a bunch of questions, to "qualify" me, for the next step. At first I didn't qualify because I don't use credit cards. Mike dangled the carrot.
I called my mother, she said that she had seen the ad on tv and had thought about buying the program. So I called Mike back and asked him what we had to do to be able to work with John. He set up a time for me and my mother to talk with his supervisor, the one who makes the final decisions.
We were told that we would be able to work with John for $10,000 that that money was for investment purposes, we would go to Las Vegas for a seminar to be personally trained and when we left we will have made at least our first property purchase and sale. We told them we didn't have $10,000 to spend.
Then we were given an opportunity for Scholarship. They would eat the cost if we could come up with $7,000 something dollars.
We wouldn't be able to go to the seminar but we would have 10,30 minute "coaching" sessions. They guaranteed our success. We told them that $7,000 something dollars was also not doable.
Brandon, the supervisor, asked how much we had avaialble on my mother's credit cards. That was the amount they could work with plus a check for $315, amazing huh.
It would get us 7 sessions with our "coach", and enough money left to make our first property flip. After we flipped a couple properties we could then go to one of their seminars.
We were told that the money going on the cards would be used toward the purchase of properties online.incendently, you can't purchase property at a tax sale with a credit card.
Guess what, you can't purchase properties for $100 either. Go to BID$4SSETS.com and click on the counties holding tax sales, you'll see.
There are no properties starting at 100 dollars, and they had nothing to do with John Beck or his organizations for that money that was supposed to go toward these properties purchased. When I asked how we were to purchase these properties I was told that we would be looking for zero down. Another thing that doesn't even exist.
We were ASSURED numerous, numerous times that we would have enough info through the materials and the coaching sessions that we would most certainly flip our first property within 90 days. We made our purchase, we were now in business and on our way to financial independence. Ha!
We received our kits. The information is full of typo's making for very difficult reading. The forms that came in the kit are also full of typo's and it is a "read only" format so they can't be corrected, meaning they can't be used.
I read cover to cover all of the info that was sent.
The books, customer service assistance and coaching sessions are so vague and unhelpful. It was supposed to be all inclusive. After the purchase, all the I's were dotted and the t's were crossed, then we were suddenly told, no one has a crystal ball. No one could guarantee our success in 90 days or at all for that matter.
We were sent a paper to sign and return, which we never did. We didn't agree with what it said.
The supervisor Brandon miscalculated and they ended up putting an amount on one of the cards that took it over the limit. You know what happens when you go over the limit!
When I called customer service with a tax lein question I was told to look for local properties. My coach said that I didn't ask the right questions when I told him about it. WHERE IS THE BOOK ON WHAT I SHOULD AND SHOULD NOT BE ASKING!
The sessions were too short to adtually get any viable information out of my coach. Who incidently, assured me that if I did what he said, I would meet my goal of $360,000 in a year. He never called on time and by the time we got to the part of my asking questions we were always conveniently out of time.
We now have $3000 worth of debt to deal with, which was supposedly tax deductible, NOT! That could have been used on the actual investment of properties.
There is a customer service hotline to help answer any questions, and give website information. They are always in a big hurry to get you off the phone.
Questions are never answered on the actual subject to asked about. I've been led to websites that either did not exist or was supposedly "free" only to learn that there was a fee for the use of these sites.
The coaching sessions were spent going over the same thing that we had gone over the week before. I had to prompt an assigment for the following week. Anything that I happened to learn was done through my own desire and willingness to search and read... Other peoples teachings.
We called to cancel the program after giving it a MORE THAN FAIR shot and were, of course refused, because we had had 4 sessions already.
I am a what you see is what you get kind of gal. I believe in honesty. I want to know that when I go to bed at night I can close my eyes and sleep because I did the right thing that day. Vengence is mine saith the Lord and there is no way that I want to be on the receiving end of that. When I tell someone something I mean it. I expect the same in return.
I made the commitment to do my part, I did, and a whole lot more.
I got right up to the point of my first auction, which I was instructed to do even with my limited funds to bid. I asked my coach how I got my money to begin bidding and his response was, find a lender.
What kind of lender and where are they? His answer, in the phonebook. Why would a lender in my phonebook in VA want to lend money for investment property in CA?
I believe this was one of the most painful lessons I've ever learned. Not only did I get taken, I took my mother with me.
I believe in the real estate investment business and I am going to make my business work. It won't be with the help of John Beck or his organization of underhanded, misleading liars.
I hope these people go to bed at night and have a conscience laid upon them so strongly that it removes their ability to sleep at night lying awake thinking about all the people they have hurt, and what it has cost those people, by their lack of ethics and morals.
I hope that any person or organization that feeds off people's desire for something more, the american dream, are found out and shut down. Never again to play on a person's nievity that most people are genuine.
