Thanks to my portable laptop - I was able to stop the sale before my little rip off artist dinged me for $145 in magazines that I would never receive.
Two young energetic people came to my door, saying they were selling magazine subscriptions to win a trip to Cancun. That Entrepreneurs Across America teaches social and public speaking skills. They seemed really nice, but I was suspicious so they told me to look up their web page.
Well, as it happened, I was working from home and have a wireless laptop, so I brought it to the door and looked them up. Thier site was just ok, I could have put that together quickly. So, I thought they were nice, and Im a sucker for helping kids, so I gave her my credit card and cell phone to call in the order.
Originally, I thought that I had signed up for 1 year at $39, but then when she wanted me to authorize $145-I told my credit card and my phone and said-hold on a sec, let me check my credit card balance. For $40, I would have taken a gamble, but anything over $100 is serious.
So copied and pasted their company into google with the work "ripoff" and came up with all the reports. I told them "nope, Im not going to do it" -you are guys running a scam and shut my door.
I called the building maintenance and told them that there were ripoff artists in the complex. I dialed the number that the girl was calling to verify my credit card number and told those people they should be ashamed of themselves and they should go make an honest living instead of ripping people off.
Anyway, thank you for saving me from feeling like a schmuck!
