I am a recent college graduate who is looking for a job in the music industry after completing two interships with record companies during my last two semesters of school. After a number unsuccesful attempts to even score an interview with a record company I found a music discussion board where I posted a question about landing a job in the music industry. A few hours later I got a reply from RJ Bucharia, President of Edge 1 Records who asked me to send him a copy of his resume. Later in the day, after sending him my resume, he asked if I would be availible to come in for an interview the following week. I was beyond excited but during the interview that excitement turned into complete frustration. Mr. Bucharia was an obnoxious jerk to me and he made fun of my previous work experience.
When we got to talking about the position he asked if I would do a project for him. He wanted me to come up with a marketing and a public relations plan for an artist and if I did it correctly we would discuss things further. Having nothing else to do or lose I decided to do it. After showing to some friends, who thought it was pretty good, I e-mailed it to Mr. Bucharia but instead of getting a second interview or the position, he changed everything he wanted me to do. He asked if I could do something that was more unique than what was already being done along with names of Program Directors, Editors of magazines that might know (I only interned at record companies and never was I allowed to speak to those kind of people. All I did was mailings and retail calls). I re-did the project in the way he wanted it but after I sent it to him I never heard back from him again.
Then it dawned on me: I never had a chance, he was just using me to steal ideas, MY IDEAS, for his company and pass them along. I also went back to the discussion board and saw posts from other people who asked similar questions that I did and replies from Mr. Bucharia who got them to send them his resume. I can only wonder how many others out there have been duped by this poor excuse of person. I'm glad I found out about this site so I can tell my story so I can help prevent the same thing from happening again.
