I got an email, out of the blue from this individual. He needed a document edited and like the others on this site, he informed me half up front the other half upon completion.
My gut reaction was to ignore this but for some reason I decided to play along. I crafted a response to his inquiry telling him how I worked. I also informed him we would go through Guru or eLance for the project.
I also insisted he provide a copyright page to the document. No copyright page and he wanted additional personal information which told me this was a scam.
My mistake was I didn't look him up earlier on Google. When I saw these complaints I knew I had to stop him in his tracks. I informed him the project will go (no compromise) through Guru or eLance or the project is dead.
I do not expect to hear back from him. I suspect he got my email from Guru as well, but it could have also come from eLance.
He is using a gmail account when he contacted me so who knows what he is using now.
I did not know about this website before this incident but be assured that I have now bookmarked it and will check it constantly. A site like this does provide a valuable service.
