In the month of November, I had received a call from a woman who told me she was from the PHONE BOOK. She had wanted to verify the information of my auto repair shop for a FREE publication in the PHONE BOOK. I told her my name, my position at the shop, the address, e-mail address, and telephone number. The woman said it would be recorded for verification purposes only. My business had moved from Jamesburg NJ to Monroe Twp NJ. We also changed our name because Jamesburg Automotive no longer seemed to fit. I thought nothing of the phone call at first since we were not in the phone book with the new name. Now, the woman, obviously from another country (as we are all familiar with the wonderful world of outsourcing) began to give me a serious attitude because
I could not understand some of the things she was asking. I gave her my information and hung up.
She called a second time. Once again I verified my information, only this time, she asked me if i would also like to try a month free of a website made for my business. Being scammed twice already by free online trials, I was not up for a third. I told the woman "NO". If she wanted, she could MAIL me information and I would consider it. She was very persistent that I would try it. I explained to her that I was NOT interested in any free websites as I have no use for it at my shop. The woman began to harrass me, to which I gave her an attitude back. She then put me on hold to speak to someone else. I was busy WORKING, and hung up. Not 2 minutes later, ANOTHER call... This time from a man. He once again made me verify my information and proceeded to ask me about the website. The man CLEARLY only knew 4 phrases in English. One of them being "is that correct ma'am" to which I answered "correct"."is that a yes?" "YES CORRECT MEANS YES" -for every information verification. I had gotten extremely fed up and hung up. The man called back 2 more times, and I had someone answer the phone and tell them I was out.
In the conversations regarding the website, they explained that it would simply be billed to my phone bill, ONLY if i had ORDERED it, AFTER the free trial. I told them I did not want any part of it.
In the mail today december 27th I received the phone bill. On it, was a third party charge for a website. I was livid. I called up the company and politely told them I had not ordered any website that it was a mistake. The woman who had answered played me a recording of me "ordering my website".
Much to my surprise, they stole the verification of the business name, address, phone number, my name, and position and added a recording i NEVER HEARD!"thank you for ordering your website..."
This is a scam! After complaing to the woman that this recording was incorrect, I was transfered to someone "higher" who had told me they had NOTHING to do with the PHONE BOOK! As of right now, I am waiting for him to call me back. He said he needed to look further into the situation. I told him he had ONE HOUR to get back in touch with me or I'm calling him.
For the record: I have not seen the website. I have not logged on to it. I have received NO confirmation e-mails regarding the website. I REFUSE to pay the 39.99 set-up feee and the 39.99 monthly subscription.
